Job Opportunity, Communications Assistant with The Quebec Writers’ Federation

QWF Seeks Communications Assistant (8‐week contract)

The Quebec Writers’ Federation (QWF) is seeking a reliable, detail‐oriented, and motivated young person
between the ages of 15 and 30 for an eight‐week position as Communications Assistant in the QWF Office in
the Atwater Library and Computer Centre, Westmount, in June and July 2019. Supervision, training and
mentorship will be provided by Rachel McCrum, QWF Communications and Membership Coordinator, and Lori
Schubert, Executive Director. The job would particularly suit someone interested in arts management and/or
communications, and would provide invaluable career‐related experience.
 Start date: ***10 June, 2019 TBC***
 Length of contract: 8 weeks
 Hours: 30 hours a week, to be spread over 4 days (10am – 530pm)
 Salary: $12.50 an hour
Primary responsibilities
 Compile, assemble, and send out the monthly QWF e‐newsletter detailing upcoming opportunities,
submissions deadlines, residencies etc.
 Prepare and disseminate e‐communications and social media updates for the QWF, maintaining a
professional and engaging tone throughout.
 Update the news feed on the QWF Website by researching and creating relevant news articles, and
interviewing at least 2 local authors/QWF Members to create original content.
 Update the QWF contacts database to input information on community and outreach groups, and other
special interest groups, and to undertake some reporting on these groups.
 Organize and upload the zine content from the Writers in the Community project with at‐risk youth in
order to disseminate and promote this creative work.
Requirements
 Must be aged 15 to 30 (please note: the funding is no longer contingent on the successful applicant
being a student.)
 Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been
conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
 Must have a valid Social Insurance Number and be entitled to work in Canada in accordance with
relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
 Must have an excellent command of written English, and conversational French for telephone.
 Must be able to work autonomously to organize and prioritize tasks.
 Must demonstrate an ability to write, edit and proofread your own documents for accuracy and correct
spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
 Experience with Facebook and Twitter.
Additional assets
 Experience with Mailchimp, WordPress, and Salesforce.
 Familiarity and enthusiasm for Quebec’s English‐language literary scene.
